If you're part of a group, which may want to make blankets for homeless pets, CFC just made it a bit easier! Or maybe you'd just like to get your neighbors together to support your local shelter with blankets?

It explains our program, outlines the easy steps to facilitating a group project, and has directions on making two types of fleece blankets. Thank you from Chenango SPCA!

"I hope you enjoy these photos of Zucchi. This young lady came to us at only six weeks of age. She was skin and bones and had a severe respiratory infection. We weren't sure if she'd survive. After a couple months of treatment and a lot of TLC she was ready for adoption. And then nothing, no one looking at her. Zucchini kept growing and became more loving. Your last box of blankets arrived and we let Zucchini help us unpack it.

As you can see there wasn't much unpacking going on! She already had one of your blankets but after being with us so long she needed a new one.

Then on the 5th of the month, Zucchini found herself a forever home! Please thank all your volunteers for all they do and let them know they make a difference one blanket at a time."

151,607 blankets donated as of 9/30/2022!

     Happy (almost) Halloween

Autumn is my favorite time of year, since it's the perfect season to stock up on craft supplies and make warm snuggly blankets for the winter ahead! It's also a time for pumpkins, apple picking and bonfires! I hope it's a favorite season of yours as well (or at least in the top four)!
We hit a major milestone last month, as we donated our 150,000th blanket! Thank you ALL for making that amazing achievement possible. As I hunted down my old crochet hooks in 2007 and started on my first blanket for the DuPage County Animal Shelter, I could have never envisioned reaching that goal. I knew I was being called to craft, and I'm so glad I followed that lead and stayed out of His way!

Since we're gearing up for the fall and winter, I'm now back to accepting yarn donations at our home base (my home) in Glen Ellyn, IL. You may have noticed that donations were discouraged over the summer since I was stocked-up and quickly running out of room. Fleece is also welcomed, though I do have a bit of that on hand as well.

As a Halloween treat, if you'd like to try your hand at C2C crochet, just click on the picture to the left and download the graph for the Pumpkin Kitty pet blanket I made. There are many tutorials online which explain how to crochet Corner-to-Corner. It seems difficult at first, but it's actually quite easy. This pattern is an easy one to start with as well. Happy Halloween!

Grateful for the CFC team,

Pets you are helping!

Your Beautiful Creations!

thank you volunteers & supporters!

warriors help comfort pets!

I was thrilled when Hailee Ackerman, the head coach of the woman's volleyball team at Meridian High School, in Meridian, Idaho, reached out to me in August. She wanted to kick off her season by getting the players together to help others. These young woman choose to make fleece blankets for their local animal shelter, the Idaho Humane Society in nearby Boise.

Together they crafted ten beautiful and colorful blankets, that will really brighten up the shelter. They donated them last month and sent these wonderful pictures, which document their fun and their caring. It's groups like these, and many others this summer, that prompted me to create our first Group Project Packet. So now we're ready to support groups like these amazing women, as they work to comfort homeless pets.

Thank you Coach Ackerman and thank you team. We're wishing you a winning season....go Meridian Warriors!!!

Why we help shelter pets...

I hope you enjoy these comments from your fellow volunteers, on why they do what they do! I'm sure their love of pets and enjoyment of crafting will sound familiar to you!

  • "I make blankets because I love cats and wish I could adopt them all. The next best thing is to send some love and a hug in a blanket." ~ Penny E. in Campbellsville, KY
  • "I hope to bring some comfort and security, since we can all use those. That's why I make blankets! I like to think I am making a difference (for the better) in an animal's life, even if it's in some small way." ~ Carolyn M. in Salem, NH

  • "These poor animals have landed in these shelters (thank goodness) due to no fault of their own. They are being taken care of and hopefully my blankets show them there is still humanity left in the world. Blankets give them an insight of what the future holds for and comfort." ~ Susan B. in St. Francis, WI

  • "I feel warm and fuzzy inside every time I crochet a blanket for a pet in need. Mainly, it's my way to give back some of the love that my two rescues have given me." ~ Geni O. in Channahon, IL

Direct Shipping Benefits Everyone!

We are now donating 1,500-2,000 blankets regularly every month, which is awesome! It's also A LOT of blankets to filter in and out of my house every month

With this in mind, we're asking all out-of-state volunteers to please donate your blankets directly to a shelter right in your own state!

I can help you find a shelter near you, and will do all the work getting them signed up. If you choose a shelter from our website list, I can promise you that in-state shipping will be less costly than sending them to me. I do ask though that you let me that I can update my records!

Benefits of donating your blankets locally:

  • Cheaper than shipping them to Illinois (if you're out of state)!
  • You can ask for a tax receipt and possibly write off the donation (please check with your tax professional).
  • You'll also get to hear firsthand how much the shelter staff appreciates the blankets. Thank you!!!

spread the word & join the fun!

If you'd like to keep up to date on our mission, follow us on Facebook! We also have a Facebook Group, "The Comfort for Critters Team", where we share what we're working on, pet and craft humor, and tip & tricks for making beautiful blankets. It's a private group that stays 100% positive, 100% of the time! Please consider joining us!

Cat ring toys for your kitty or a shelter!

If you're looking for a fun project this fall... this may be it! These cat ring toys are absolutely LOVED by kitties, whether they're hanging out in a shelter or in your own kitchen. They are fun and easy to make as well. You can download the directions here, or if you're near our home base in Glen Ellyn, IL our "yarn bench" will have the packets shown on the left, throughout this month.

The packets have about a dozen rings, directions on how to make them, and remnant yarn. Everything you need to get started right away! They'd make a great gift for your own kitty or to donate to the local shelter you're already supporting with blankets. Enjoy!

Once you make blankets:

  • Local volunteers are welcome to drop off their blankets to a shelter near them or to CFC's headquarters in Glen Ellyn, IL. Please leave your name and email on whatever you drop off, so that I can send a thank you note.
  • If you're outside our area, please check our "Animal Shelters We Support" page to find a shelter in your state. Then ship your blankets directly to the shelter or drop them off at their front door. PLEASE let me know how many you donated via email or by using our website form. If you'd like help signing up a local shelter, please email me!

Please be patient:

  • Keep in mind that CFC is a small organization, with just one staff member! I do reply to every email, but it may take me a few days. Thanks!
